I would donate money and spend much of my own personal time towards a cure for cancer. Kayla Atkins, a family friend, passed away before the beginning of this school year. She was only twenty-one. She is the same age as my sister and was in her graduating class. Kayla had started dating a guy, John, her senior year. The summer after she graduated, Kayla was diagnosed with Leukemia. John stood by her side through her fight with cancer and proposed to her a couple months before she passed away. I have never met someone who has positively affected so many people. When hearing of her death, our community came together like I have never seen before. At her visitation, the line led outside of our large church and proceeded down the street. I think everyone who met Kayla was touched by her selflessness and courage. Cancer affects many other people and families like Kayla’s. I think spending some time and money would be well worth it if it means others are spared the experience.
